In 1927, Karl Straube and the Thomanerchor - that is, the direct successor to the choir led by J. S. Bach at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, Germany - traveled from Leipzig to Berlin to record several short Bach choral movements. I happened to find a copy of these recordings, on the Brunswick label, through some unlikely source - flea market or antique store, I don't remember - in the mid 1970's. One of the sides of the two-78 set had a short organ introduction. No one was credited on the label as organist. I wrote to Helmut Walcha, knowing that he had been a part of the Straube circle in those days, to ask if he could tell me anything about this recording project.
